Operation PetuniaOpen
Operation Petunia, Wenatchee Gateway beautification. Help Make the Entrance to Wenatchee near the Big Apple beautiful! Go to http://www.operationpetunia.org. Join us to help clean up, weed and beautify the area near the Big Apple sign that leads into our city. This summer, we planted petunias and we're working with the DOT and the City on a long-term plan for the area. The main entryway into our city, our Gateway, is below Chatam Hill as you enter from Highway 97, officially called SR285, prior to crossing the Wenatchee River. Humble start. After picking up garbage, weeding and pulling dead grass, I planted Petunias in a small area near the Gateway. Now imagine this whole area bright with Petunias. All it takes is for each person to provide just one Petunia plant, and we can transform this area, and the entire area behind the barrier, too. It's called the Multiplier Effect. So let's give it a try. Read about the project in the Wenatchee World. Click here to download Operation Petunia Project Plan Click here to download a little essay about Petunias and art. Before the Petunias. Our city's gateway.

It is the 5th leading unintentional cause of injury and death in the United States, behind motor vehicle crashes, falls, poisoning by solids or liquids, and drowning. House fires also ranked as the first cause of death for children under the age of 15 at home. The American Red Cross Youth and Disaster Volunteers will campus the local neighborhoods in the Wentachee area, providing educational information in hopes of preventing the devastation caused by fires. Education and awareness is important, we are here to help. Learn more about fire safety by contacting you local fire department, emergency management office, or American Red Cross Chapter. Volunteers and staff will meet at the Red Cross office located on 12 Orondo Ave. Wenatchee, WA. at 1 p.m. Hope to see you there!
