      Cub Scout Pack 8 of St. Joseph's Catholic Church collected food to aid the needy on Oct. 24. They passed out plastic sacks to homes during the week before Make A Difference Day and then went house-to-house again collecting the filled bags on Saturday.

LDS Youth Pump for a CureOpen
      "Pump for a Cure." 10 young people and three leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Castlerock Ward, pumped gas and washed windshields at the Wenatchee Safeway gas station on the morning of Make A Difference Day. $325 was collected for Breast Cancer Research and donated through Safeway. The kids also made t-shirts that they wore for the project.

Wenatchee Grace Lutheran ChurchOpen
      Grace has two Make A Difference Day projects: 1. Through the month of October, we are doing projects for Habitat for Humanity. This fall, 5 Lutheran churches and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans ($60,000 grant) are constructing a Habitat home at 741 Walker St. For the past 2 weeks, Wenatchee Grace Lutheran ladies have provided morning refreshments at the home. On Oct. 24, we will be assisting Catholic Family and Child Services by helping 5 families in a local mobile home park with weeding, trimming shrubs, lawn mowing, painting, and packing and sorting household items. Josh Putnam Memorial Scholarship/Sculpture FundOpen
      Josh was a 31 year old teacher when he died who lived life to the fullest. He loved teaching, loved his students and inspired all of us at Lee School with his enthusiasm. He made us better educators and people for having known him. We are funding a scholarship in his name and having a sculpture built at school by the art and metal students at EHS to keep his memory with us. The Hat ProjectOpen
      The Hat Project needs your yarn donations and/or gas cards! We are a community program that serves needy children under age 7. Hatmakers knit, crochet and do hats on the loom, then give the hats away throughout North Central Washington. Our program is growing speedily. There are so many (approximately 5,000) needy children under 7 whom we are reaching with our hats.... and yarn is the "fabric" of our work. On Oct. 24, we will have 3 yarn drop offs in Wenatchee: 1. Washington Trust Bank drive-up at 1851 N. Wenatchee Ave.; 2. Art on the Avenues; clean sculpturesOpen
      Art on the Avenues cares for about 60 sculptures on public display in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee. The sculptures need to be washed off, dusted, waxed up a bit and cleaned several times a year. Cleaning supplies are all provided by Art on the Avenues. The work should take no more than a few hours and is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the Wenatchee Center Water Fountain at the corner of First and Wenatchee. We should be done by 1 p.m. Volunteers work in pairs or groups of three.

Ski Swap/Benefit at Orchard Middle SchoolOpen
      The largest ski swap in NCW will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 am to 2 pm at Orchard Middle School, 1024 Orchard St. The event benefits Orchard Middle School ASB and Mission Ridge Ski Team. Sellers can check ski (alpine and nordic) and snowboard equpiment, clothing, gear and boots on items on Friday, Oct. 23, from 5-8 pm. Doors open to buyers promptly at 8 a.m. Oct. 24. Antioch Adoptions Fund Raising BarbecueOpen
      Antioch Adoptions Wenatchee is a no-fee adoption agency that recruits and trains potential adoptive families, primarily to adopt children from the foster care system; to help children change their title from 'foster kid" to "Son" and "Daughter." Antioch Adoptions does not charge their families the usual, expensive adoption fees and obtains operating funds solely by donations. We are having a fund raising barbecue on Oct. 24. Clear Lake CITOOpen
      Cache-cadians, the local chapter of the Washington State Geocachers Association will be doing a CITO at Clear Lake on Make A Difference Day. CITO is an acronym for Cache In Trash Out. We will meet at the Clear Lake parking area at 9:00 AM and pick up litter around the lake. This clean up event has been approved by the Department of Natural Resources, who manage the land at Clear Lake.       The CASA office (Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children) has an outside deck/patio which is in need of restoration. The deck needs to be sanded, powerwashed and painted to create a gathering place for CASA Volunteers.

Diaper DriveOpen
      The Junior Service League of Wenatchee is collecting diapers for area families in need on Saturday, October 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Albertsons in Wenatchee. The YWCA will receive the diapers and distribute to residents in need around the community.

Restoration Planting & Fencing on the Entiat RiverOpen
      Join the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust in celebrating Make a Difference Day by planting trees and shrubs to restore riparian and upland habitats and building a post and rail fence along the Entiat River. Wenatchee Foothills Trail ProjectOpen
      This fall the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust will be working in the Foothills once again to improve and protect the trails. Last spring we rerouted a section of trail around a steep, severely eroding area, and now we will replant and restore that abandoned section of trail. We will be using hand tools to break up the old trail bed, laying down erosion matting and spreading seed. We will also work on the new trail to touch up areas that need attention. Camp Zanika Lache Make a Difference DayOpen
      We’ve got lots to do! Tents to take down, docks to bring in, lots of brush to be cleared and burned, buildings to be swept and cleaned, repairs to be made, painting, raking leaves, chopping and stacking wood. Bring brooms, shovels, rakes, axes and saws if you have them. We can’t do it without your help. Free hot and fresh homemade lunch served with a smile. Free overnight lodging is available. Start as early as 8:00 A.M. Projects will conclude at about 4 P.M. Camp Zanika is located at 16400 Cedar Brae Road, Lake Wenatchee.
